Karen Berlin Ishii, a graduate of Brown University, has over 25 years' experience as a classroom teacher and test prep tutor.
She taught for The Princeton Review before founding her very successful tutoring consortium in Boston, creating PSAT and SAT prep courses for The British
School and others. Now in New York City, she teaches students in-person - and around the globe via Skype - for a wide range of exams, including the SAT,
ACT, ISEE, SSAT, SHSAT, GRE and TOEFL.
In addition to teaching, Karen produces seminars and lectures on SAT and ACT prep for parents and students through The Brown Club in New York and writes a regular column on test prep for Examiner.com. She reviews and edits SAT, PSAT and other test prep textbooks for major publishers including the "Dummies" series for Wiley, Vocabulary Workshop for Sadlier, the ISEE/SSAT for Barron's and the upcoming title on the PSAT for Barron's. Karen also is a distributed scorer for Pearson, scoring standardized test essays nationwide.
As a parent of two recent college graduates, Karen relates well to families' concerns about the college test process and enjoys wonderful rapport with both students and parents.
What Karen's students and their parents say:
"... with your help I felt more prepared, and therefore more relaxed and confident [taking the SAT II exam].
- Meredith H, now a student at NYU
"... [Karen was] very helpful in motivating Jennifer to get the most out of her SAT study. It is clear that Karen is dedicated to her students .... I would highly recommend Karen Berlin Ishii as a tutor."
- Marcia B, mother of student at Tufts University
